“You can be sure that the American spirit will prevail over this tragedy.” — Colin Powell
It's impossible not to start this day thinking of 25 years ago. So much has happened in this county, in our own lives since then, but I know we can all so vividly recall the intense emotion of that day. Even as a teenager, I'll never forget the way it felt to watch the events unfold and then the days, weeks and months after the overwhelming pride and unity of America. And of course, since then, so many brave Americans defending this country. It's big and heavy, and as a mom of four kids in all stages of comprehension, I know it's so important for my family to know that the pride and spirit of America will live on. And we can all be so glad and grateful to be a part of this culture, of this land.
In speaking of 9/11, we're losing our friend and farm hand, Derick Pinge this week as he enters his military journey in the Air Force. We're so grateful to this young man for all of his help- he's a farm kid so jumped right up to the farm tasks, but also learned the ways of the creamery and came up with some seriously delicious gelato flavors while he was here. He delivered milk, shoveled sawdust, fed cows, moved hay bales, milked cows while we were away, picked up feed and supplies, made gelato, bottled milk and everything else in between. We're really, really going to miss him. But we're so proud to have had the chance to get to be a small, tiny part of his life. If you see Derick, wish him luck as he heads to Texas later this month to join the Air Force!
PHEW. That's all heavy and explains my emotional week I guess! But onto some lighthearted, fun stuff: FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS IN BROCKWAY START TONIGHT!! It's a celebration of youth athletes at the Brockway Rovers Home opener tonight at 7pm with the kids in youth football making the tunnel (our Alex included)! We're so excited to celebrate the Rovers and remember: you can join and watch the parade from the Scoop Shoppe between 6 and 6:30pm on Main Street in Brockway!
This week's flavors are perfect for a crisp almost-fall day:
- Pumpkin Cheesecake (made with gluten-free gingersnaps!)
- Banana Chocolate Chip
- Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
- Chocolate
- Peanut Butter Chocolate Pretzel
- Honeycomb (honey and toffee bits)
- Raspberry Matcha
- Classic Vanilla Bean

Links and finds from this week:
- Idle Acres Studios is hosting their 5th Plein Air Market and it's worth the trip! Their pottery is STUNNING. And don't forget about Brockway's Sunday Market!
- Maybe off-topic, but Heidi Caillier's design makes me so happy: if you've seen my house you know my love of wallpaper runs deep, but also vintage furniture and old-home finds. Her home is unreal. I might not dive that deep into pattern drenching, but I love that she's giving us the excuse to add color! Pattern! It's our own personal space, and I love making it really reflect who you are.
- My favorite slippers. Under $15 and linen, so they are perfect for no-socks!
- Made this chicken stroganoff this week and got rave reviews!
- Also made a delicious zucchini bread: I added pecans because, well: pecans.
- Jesse and I are starting a new Community Sports Spotlight series and interviewed the Brockway Rover Varsity Football Team this week! Stay tuned as we're excited to get to know all the local athletes and teams.
Have the best weekend!
Hope to see you at the Scoop Shoppe!
xx,
Lisa
