Happy Friday 5/23/25

"Memorial Day remains one of America's most cherished patriotic observances. The spirit of this day has not changed - it remains a day to honor those who died defending our freedom and democracy."

Memorial Day weekend is here (already)! While I know it marks the unofficial start of summer with picnics and fun, I think it's so important to remember its real meaning and purpose. Jesse's great uncle, Elwood Snyder, was killed in the Korean War, and every chance we can, we bring up his name, his bravery and his sacrifice. We couldn't be the country we are without the brave men and women protecting us, and we're forever grateful.  So while I know we've turned this weekend into an unofficial summer party weekend, I think it's important to take even a moment to reflect and give thanks.

And speaking of summer: Pennsylvania has clearly forgotten the temperature averages for this time of year, so we're a distant memory away from warm temperatures and outdoor fun over here. The high is 50F all weekend, so let's hope this is the final weekend of that! We're playing pretend in the Scoop Shoppe, though, with the ultimate summer gelato flavor making a comeback in pints and its debut in the scoop cabinet: KEY LIME PIE!  We bought key lime juice from Florida and churned out a sweet and tart citrus delight and used a graham cracker crumble for the traditional version. But I know so many of you are watching your gluten intake, so I found some vanilla cookies that are gluten free for a gluten sensitive version, too! We also added German Chocolate Cake, Cake Batter, Coffee Toffee and a classic Creme Anglaise (vanilla bean).

We're extending our hours for Memorial Day and can't wait to welcome you all to the Scoop Shoppe this weekend!
