Happy Friday

Snow, snow and more snow has taken over the forecast.
Everyone’s talking about it—the giant storm rolling in, the way it’s filling up news reports and social feeds like it’s something brand new. But I’ll be honest… I find myself a little numb to it all. We live in western Pennsylvania, after all. Twelve inches of snow between Friday and Sunday? That feels pretty on-brand for January.
And when you’re farmers, life doesn’t really get the memo that it’s supposed to stop.
While the storm makes plans to inconvenience the rest of the world, we’ll do what we always do: pull out the salt and the shovels, lace up our boots, and keep trudging to the barn to milk the cows. We’ll keep hauling crates of milk and gelato through the snow, hoping you’ll still bundle up and make your way to the Scoop Shoppe this weekend.
Mother Nature has a way of playing silly games like that—reminding us who’s really in charge.
Of course, the kids are already one step ahead of the forecast. The perfect carrot nose has been set aside for the next round of snowmen, and the hot chocolate stash is fully stocked for that just-right cup of cocoa after a long day in the cold. There’s something sweet about the way snow slows us down if we let it—about finding joy right where we are.
So whatever this weekend brings, I hope we can all find a way to enjoy it. It is still January, after all.
And if you’re up for it, the gelato shop is OPEN all weekend.
We’re even open through a little dust and construction, because some really fun changes are coming. Our temporary back room will be closed this weekend while it gets a much-needed spruce-up. We’re preparing to take down part of the wall to open up more space and seating—something we’ve been dreaming about for a long time.
For a family like ours—six in total, with three little (very wild) movers—tight seating at the Scoop Shoppe has always been our Achilles’ heel. But we believe in building slowly and steadily. That meant saving, planning, and waiting until the timing was right to finally open things up.
And now? It is.
We can’t wait to share the finished space with you in the next week or two. Until then, we’re open during our usual winter hours, snow boots and all, ready to serve you something sweet.
Because some things—snow, January, and showing up anyway—are just part of the season.

And if you needed one more reason to brave the snow, we’re scooping up some really good ones this weekend.
Think caramel cheesecake, fresh strawberry, and that classic cookies & cream everyone reaches for. We’ll also have rich chocolate, peanut butter cup, vanilla bean crème anglaise, and a deeply satisfying dark chocolate for those who love chocolate.
Links + finds from the week:
- This soup is a winter favorite around here.
- And my kids surprisingly loved this take on weeknight meatballs
- This week's gelato list is a good one!
- I can't believe how relatable this design style is. "Essentially, we could see the popularity of the ‘frazzled Englishwomen interior’ as a call to embrace the imperfect detritus of life." I think this is my home, friends.
- One of our favorite family games, perfect for a snowy weekend!
Snow boots, mittens, messy hair—however you show up, it’s definitely worth the trip. We’ll have the doors open, the cases full, and something sweet waiting for you. 🍨❄️
