Happy Friday, friends. I'm late to the game writing this week because, goodness, what a heavy, heavy week. I don't have the right words for the deep sadness of this past week, but I know I'm feeling so drawn to my home, my husband and my kids right now. And I don't think that's a coincidence. I think my prayers have helped me realize just how grateful I am to have the comforts of home. And just like the quote above, the opportunity to be a comfort to my family. I hope you all can feel that right now, too: a pause and reminder that you get to be the comfort for someone, too. How lucky are we?!
On the topic of comfort, the cool nights and mornings are telling the tale of Autumn around here! So I've been baking, roasting, lighting candles and decorating for fall in my house, and the kids are loving it. I'm loving it, too.
The first of the local apples are here from southern New York and they're fantastic. We got honeycrisp this week and will have them available for you at the Scoop Shoppe. More varieties to come, but we're ready for the produce shift with the season. And of course, gelato has made the shift into fall flavors! This week, we're trying apple and a subtle change to pumpkin that I think you're going to enjoy. Let's look at all the flavors:
- Honeycomb. A brand new favorite already. Real crystallized honey and bits of Heath toffee pieces. Crunchy yet sweet in the best way.
- Pumpkin Cheesecake. Our classic pumpkin but elevated. We started with our cheesecake base and added real pumpkin puree and pumpkin spices and finished with a gingersnap crumble.
- Spiced Apple. Pureed apples meet fall spices in a spiced-cider-in-a-cup gelato!
- Espresso Chip. Espresso gelato with chocolate flakes.
- Creme anglaise. Our classic vanilla bean.
And we're scooping our late summer hours all weekend: Thursday through Sunday 2pm until 9pm and Saturday 12pm until 9pm.
Links + finds from the week:
- The Elk Rut is officially on in Elk Co, PA! We're so excited to live close to the largest free-roaming elk herd east of the Mississippi River and the rut is such a fun experience. I want to try the wagon rides! Not local? You can watch the Elk Cam.
- An unbelievable perspective from a journalist on the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
- Have you ever considered a living Christmas Tree? Our friends at Tuckaway Tree Farm are offering pre-orders for baled, live Christmas Trees that can be replanted and enjoyed for years!
- We're excited to break out these cute ghost decorations again!
- Our garden is BURSTING with tomatoes and I've made several batches of roasted tomato sauce (no peeling, no blanching)!
If you're having a heavy weekend like I am, feel free to stop by the Scoop Shoppe: I know gelato can't hurt.
Sending a big warm hug,
Lisa
